The traditional boat racing festival for the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Dragon 2024 officially opened from 12:45 PM to 1:10 PM on the 2nd day of the Lunar New Year (February 11, 2024) on the Ca Ty River, Phan Thiet City. The competition events include: Boat racing: 300m (new), 500m parallel race, and 1200m turning race (new): 25 athletes/wooden boat. Single and double basket boat race and basket boat rowing: 500m.

According to folk belief, the leading boat in these races is believed to bring good fortune to the local fishermen that year. Therefore, before the festival, the racing teams prepare meticulously and are determined to win, alongside a spirit of friendly competition and learning.
